Go Bananas, Go Go Bananas
This week has been very busy - the whirlwind of meetings for the Lubuto Library Project has continued as Jane Meyers is only in Zambia until next Thursday. It's been hectic but I think the highlights of the week were lunch at the Alliance Français with Mulenga Kapwepwe, the Chairman of the National Arts Council, and a visit to the Lusaka Playhouse to see one of Mulenga's plays being performed for the opening of the April International Theatre Festival. Jackson, my Library Assistant has become much more independent while I have been gallivanting around, so much so that I think he may be a bit disappointed when I am back next week! He is an excellent storyteller and our joint Lubuto Storytimes (where I read and he translates into the vernacular language) are really enjoyable. We have also got the Lubuto laptops up and running this week and the boys are really enjoying using them to play games, create music, make a film, chat to each other, do various recordings, etc etc.
This week I also had my first proper foray into singalongs - there are a few girls who come into the library every day at the moment so I was singing some songs with them on Friday morning (and jumping around as necessary). I turned around after a particularly energetic rendition of "Go Bananas, Go Go Bananas" to find several of the FoH staff members peeking at us through the door and giggling!
